69-Day Streak: BlackRock’s IBIT ETF Continues to Attract Cash Inflows

BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust, trading under the ticker "IBIT," has seen consistent inflows for 69 consecutive days

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, trading under the ticker “IBIT,” has seen consistent inflows for 69 consecutive days, as reported by Bloomberg Intelligence ETF analyst Eric Balchunas.

The recent Bitcoin halving, occurring at block height 840,000, marked a significant shift in the cryptocurrency’s supply dynamics, reducing the mining reward from 6.25 to 3.125 bitcoins. This event triggers a supply squeeze, part of a predefined strategy to limit Bitcoin’s total supply to 21 million, enhancing its scarcity by halving the influx of new coins into circulation.

Despite a slowdown in inflows leading up to the bullish Bitcoin halving, recent data from Farside Investments indicates a resurgence in Bitcoin ETF flows.

The escalating Israel-Iran conflict has influenced Bitcoin’s price dynamics, with last week witnessing volatility and sell-offs amid geopolitical tensions. Typically viewed as a hedge against global uncertainty, Bitcoin has stabilized around $66,300 amidst the conflict.

Basile Maire, co-founder of D8X, a decentralized exchange, explains that geopolitical events like the Israel-Iran conflict often lead to a strengthening of the Dollar, prompting portfolio managers to reduce exposure to high-volatility assets such as Bitcoin. This trend aligns with previous instances where macro-driven price impacts on Bitcoin coincide with Dollar strengthening or flight-to-safety events.

Maire suggests that macro-driven price impacts on Bitcoin are largely influenced by Bitcoin ETF trading, rather than crypto-native trading. He notes that the introduction of ETFs appears to amplify the effects of macro-events on Bitcoin prices.

While Bitcoin may experience sharper declines compared to traditional assets during geopolitical uncertainties, Maire maintains that Bitcoin’s potential as a long-term hedge against global uncertainty remains intact.
