Former Goldman Sachs hedge fund manager and RealVision CEO Raoul Pal sees significant liquidation periods as prime buying opportunities for Bitcoin, a sentiment he expressed following Bitcoin’s surge to a new all-time high above $69,000, which later corrected to around $63,000.
Data from CoinGlass indicated that over $1.17 billion worth of positions were liquidated in the crypto market, affecting approximately 296,908 traders. Long positions accounted for about $817 million of the total, while short positions amounted to approximately $234 million.
In a RealVision TV episode released Wednesday, Pal emphasized the potential of days marked by liquidations as favorable moments to invest. He described the crypto market as “ludicrous,” pointing out its extreme returns, volatility, and the strong emotional reactions of investors. Pal noted the market’s tendency to shift rapidly from euphoria to despair with sudden reversals.
Highlighting the risks associated with leverage in crypto trading, Pal cautioned against its widespread use, which can amplify both gains and losses due to the market’s inherent volatility.
Pal disclosed that he last purchased any cryptocurrency in January 2023 and has since adopted a passive investment strategy. Rather than actively managing his crypto holdings, he opts to hold onto them, describing it as a simple approach where one “gets paid to do nothing.”
