Humane, OpenAI, and Microsoft Join Forces for Wearable AI Pin

Humane, a cutting-edge AI startup founded by former Apple employees, recently introduced a groundbreaking wearable virtual assistant known as the AI Pin. Launched on November 10, the device incorporates technology from OpenAI, the renowned creator of ChatGPT, and leverages cloud computing services provided by Microsoft.

Resembling a lapel pin, the AI Pin allows users to engage with a virtual AI-powered assistant by simply tapping on the device. Apart from its core functionality, users can interact with the pin through an intuitive touchpad, perform gestures, and utilize a laser ink display projected onto their palm.

Humane envisions the AI Pin as a versatile tool capable of crafting messages in the user’s unique “tone of voice,” managing emails, delivering AI-driven music experiences, and even functioning as an AI-powered photographer. Notably, the pin offers language interpretation support and aids in achieving nutrition goals by leveraging computer vision to identify food.

Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, the co-founders of Humane, expressed their vision for the AI Pin, describing it as an integration of AI into daily life to enhance capabilities while preserving human essence.

Available for order in the United States starting November 16, the AI Pin is priced at $699 for the entire system, accompanied by a monthly subscription of $24. This subscription includes a dedicated cell phone number for the pin and related cellular services.

Humane has garnered significant attention in the tech industry, raising an impressive $241 million from notable investors such as Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Microsoft. The company’s origins trace back to former Apple employees with experience in iPhone development.

The unveiling of the AI Pin aligns with the rapid advancements in the AI space. Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI recently launched the Grok chatbot on November 5, positioned as a competitor to ChatGPT. OpenAI followed suit by introducing new features for ChatGPT subscribers, allowing them to create personalized GPTs, marking another milestone in the ever-evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.
