In a groundbreaking move, Michael Jackson’s first-ever studio demo of the song “Big Boy” is set for a global release on December 7, marking over five decades since its recording. This historic demo will be issued as “digital vinyl” on the blockchain music platform Anotherblock.

Titled “Big Boy (One-Derful Version),” the track, recorded on July 13, 1967, features eight-year-old Michael Jackson and his brothers during their inaugural studio session at One-Derful in Chicago. The release is a collaboration between Recordpool, the recording’s owner, and Anotherblock, a Swedish blockchain-based music and royalty marketplace.
Anotherblock, known for its work with major artists like Rihanna, The Weeknd, and Justin Bieber, views the “digital vinyl” approach as an opportunity to create narratives and communities around the music. The release will be available for 48 hours as both an open and limited edition, offering a unique digital ownership experience.

CEO and co-founder of Anotherblock, Michel Traore, expressed excitement about the release, emphasizing the significance of providing certain songs with a special platform to stand out in the vast music landscape. Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother, conveyed her enthusiasm, noting that the release reflects the timeless nature of the Jacksons’ musical legacy in the digital age. This move is poised to shake up the digital ownership landscape in the music industry and showcase the potential for storytelling and community-building around individual tracks.
